The CMP INSPIRATION, designed by the renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, embraces the concept of “negative architecture,” creating a subtle and harmonious integration with nature. The museum combines a steel structure with expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing natural light to effortlessly flood the interior. The surrounding 1,282 wooden gratings further enhance the warm atmosphere of the museum.
On the rooftop, plants are irrigated through a water circulation system, fostering biodiversity in the area. Visitors will also be able to step onto the rooftop to rest and enjoy a unique urban ecological landscape.
Inside the museum, Kengo Kuma’s team extensively uses wood grain materials to simulate the forms of nature. For example, the design of the walls employs wood panels of varying heights and layers, mimicking the weathered textures of rocks shaped by natural erosion.
The Karakusa pattern, used as the architectural design concept, extends from the exterior to the interior, seen in elements such as the curved information desk, the spiral staircase, and the beam and column design on the ceiling.
